Old Parliament
The
former palace of Moshir od-Dowleh, a nobleman at Nasser ad-Din Shah's
court, had for many years housed Iran's Majlis or Parliament (Baharestan
Square). It is a massive stone building with ornate iron gates leading
into a big garden, a little Second Empire in manner but still
characteristically Persian in spirit. It was in fact part of the great
mansion Moshir od-Dowleh built for himself.
The modern Iranian Islamic Consultative
Assembly holds its sessions in the previous Senate building, Imam
Khomeini street.
